1. School/Chapter Reports:
CCAE Central Section Board continues to meet monthly, rotating meeting locations to a different school site in an effort to be more inclusive of its membership. Each meeting is dedicated to Central Section business and to the 2012 State CCAE Conference planning efforts.
School sites report that attendance is up, program offerings continue to be limited, and school sites are being challenged to serve their community with fewer resources, staff, and facilities. Some schools are charging for their classes and services in an effort to offset the cost of educating adults. Communication between schools continues to increase as savvy students begin to navigate the systems, program rules and offerings.
In the Fresno region, the Mayor of Fresno is launching an initiative called Learn2Earn, which targets adults in the community without a GED or High School Diploma to go back to school to earn a GED, high School Diploma or enter college. The Mayor has worked exclusively with the Adult Education Task Force. Members of the Adult Ed Task Force (UC Merced, CSU Fresno, local Community Colleges, Private Post-Secondary, and Adult Schools) have joined together to provide Education Advisors to support interested students and provide referrals to educational opportunities.
2. Report on 2012 CCAE Conference:
Conference will be held on May 3-5, 2012 at the Radisson Hotel in downtown Fresno. The conference will begin Thursday night with the President’s Reception being held in the registration area of the hotel, similar to the 2007 conference. The western theme “The Great CCAE Roundup”, will be carried throughout the conference. So don’t be shy, bring your western wear, at the very least bring a hat! The conference committee continues to make progress on planning with decorations being produced, meal planning being completed, a band has been selected and hired, speakers have been confirmed for each meal or awards event, individuals and groups continue to respond to the “Call for Presenters”, the registration now up on the CCAE web site, venders are beginning to respond, and 42 rooms have been reserved from our reserved hotel block to date.
The section is providing an inclusive conference registration price to eliminate possible problems with District’s approving member’s travel and registration, as all food and event costs are included in the conference registration total. Our committee is working closely with Sharon Bonney to advertise the event, keep members informed and receive her guidance with the registration process.
Note: The $10 per online registration cost is reflected in the conference registration total.
