LA-Metro Section Meeting
A section meeting was held on Friday, October 21, 2011. An update informing section members of the items presented at the State Board Meeting were discussed. Participation in the Fall Conference on October 29, 2011 and a partnering event with several other professional organizations on February 16, 2012 was discussed and approved. Lastly, the Fall Awards committee announced the recipients to be honored at the Fall Awards Dinner.
CCAE-LAM Fall Awards Dinner
The Fall Awards Dinner took place on Friday, November 18, 2011 at the Empress Pavilion. We honored the recipients of the following awards: Classified Employee Awards, E. Manfred Evans Award and Abram Friedman Award. The event was well attended and all had a good time. State Board President, Chris Nelson was in attendance and Darlene Neilsen was the recipient of the E. Manfred Evans Award.
Appreciation Luncheon
Instructor, Irma Becerra Nunez, organized an appreciation luncheon for members in the community who were supportive of AB 189. At this luncheon, CCAE-LAM presented certificates of appreciation to Senator Carol Liu, Assemblymember Mike Eng, Mr. Wada, Mr. Amegeiras, and many other councilmembers who were in attendance. Thye all spoke of the great importance of Adult Education.
LISTSERV
We have been using LISTSERV to bring awareness and inform members regarding the status of the Adult Education program as it pertains to LAUSD—Division of Adult and Career Education. Many members have responded with appreciation for the updates and use of this feature.
Spring Conference
CCAE and CAROCP have started planning the 20th Annual Adult Education Spring Conference, "Making the Connection...from Learning to Earning". The conference will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2012 from 7:30 a.m. until
12:30 p.m. at Van Nuys Community Adult School, 6535 Cedros Avenue, Van Nuys, California 91411.
Networking Event
Along with several other professional organizations, CCAE-LAM is sponsoring this event with guest speaker, Dr. Jaime Aquino, Deputy Superintendent of Instruction. This event is taking place on February 16, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Daniel Webster Middle School.

Student Scholarship Fundraising
LA-Metro Section is fundraising with World's Finest Chocolates. All proceeds from this fundraiser will go directly to student scholarships.
As a professional organization CCAE-LA Metro Section will be participating in the DACE Fall Conference, "Building A Framework for the Future" on Saturday, 29, 2011. LA-Metro Section will have a table that will provide us with exposure and an opportunity to increase membership. |
