Chris Nelson—CCAE State President

Dear CCAE Members,

I would like to introduce myself as your new President of CCAE for the 2011–2013 school years. I have been a member of CCAE since 1986 when I was just beginning my career as an adult educator for Mt. Diablo Adult Education teaching adults with disabilities, older adults, and learners achieving their high school diploma. I later branched out and became a part time administrator for Albany Adult School. Eventually, I took a full time position in San Francisco to begin the Skills Center for Adult Education, Training and Employment directing programs for homeless and low income adults.

In the late 90's, I became Assistant Director for Martinez Adult Education and most recently for the past nine years, Assistant Director for Oakland Adult and Career Education. My adult education career has all been spent in the Bay Section of CCAE where I began my service to the Bay Section Board thirteen years ago. I have served as Bay Section Legislation Chair, Bay Section President, and 2011 CCAE/COABE National Conference Co-Chair that attracted over 1,400 adult educators from all over the country to San Francisco.

I am very pleased and excited to now be serving you as President of CCAE, our professional organization that serves the finest adult educators in California. I look forward to meeting you as I visit your areas in the near future.

Your CCAE Executive Board for 2011-2013 is:

President—Chris Nelson
Past President—Mike Wada
President Elect—Lariann Torrez
Secretary—Dr. Sue Lytle-Gilmore
Financial Manager—Chesty Peterson
Member at Large—Kathy Brendzal
Member at Large—Adriana Sanchez-Aldana

The next two years are critical for adult education in California. In future correspondence, I will let you know what goals we are working on in CCAE and how you can help to maintain adult education services in California.

Warmest regards,

Chris Nelson
President, CCAE
