Allen began as an Adult Ed student in 1989. He became an Instructional Aide at Harbor Occupational Center in 1990. He earned his AA degree from Harbor College and was a ROP teacher. In 1997, he arrived at HOC where he has been ever since. He is an ASE Certified/Factory Trained Diesel Mechanics. Mr. Cochran has not missed a day of work since 1996. He is highly regarded by his students with 200+ program completers in 2013. His students are highly sought after in the industry and he has excellent job placement records to prove it. Mr. Cochran received LAM's 2014 Award for Excellence in Teaching and was recognized as a Regional Teacher of the year for the Harbor Area in 2012. Allen provides up to date instruction in all facets of diesel mechanics. Since 1991, he has been responsible for $150,000 in scholarships for his students. He participates in Harbor's International Day each year by demonstrating Native American dances and supports Native American cultural events in the local community. While he was a student, he participated in the SkillsUSA competition and place 4th in the USA. As a teacher, he has encouraged his students to participate as well. To date, they have received 5 California State Championships.
