Student Spotlight - Imelda Batres - Central Section

Imelda Batres has been attending Porterville Adult School for the past three years. During this time, she has made significant progress by learning English, developing technology skills, obtaining her High School Equivalency (HiSET), and completing the Resident Care Program.

In addition to her academic achievements, Imelda has been an active volunteer in both school and community events. She has participated in activities such as the Children’s Christmas Parade in Porterville, the Apple Festival in Springville, and various career fairs at local schools and community events, proudly representing Porterville Adult School.

Her desire to continue improving her technology skills led her to successfully complete and pass the Northstar Digital Literacy assessments. In November, she also became a CCAE member, motivated by her wish to become more involved at Porterville Adult School. Through her involvement, she hopes to promote education and encourage people of all ages to continue learning, believing that it is never too late to learn.

In her own words, Imelda states:

All I can say is that I enjoy learning new things and sharing them with anyone who needs them. I really like promoting education and encouraging people of all ages to continue learning. As Nelson Mandela said, ‘Education is the most powerful weapon we have to change the world.’
