Dave Williams had his course set for a teaching career upon graduation from CSU San Francisco in 1970 with a degree in Social Sciences. But Uncle Sam had other ideas for this young man and volunteered him for 6 years of service in the Navy. Dave weathered those seas and later on returned to Chapman University to earn his Multiple Subjects and Single Subject Social Studies Credentials. He began to sub for Pittsburg USD in 1984 and eventually became a full-time Independent Study teacher in 1998 at Pittsburg Adult where his long-time Boy Scout colleague, Bob Beck, was Principal. Later he became the ASE/ABE Department chair for the program and continues today in his leadership role there and on the school’s Leadership Team.
Dave leads his students and staff with his qualities of patience, understanding, enthusiasm and loyalty. Students respond to his genuine care for them. He is a very kind man and enjoys working with PAEC staff. But watch out if you get him on the topic of Geography because that is his passion.
He wants to impart to his students the value of being educated citizens who hold good jobs and wants to give them better guidance and chances at a good future than he experienced as a student. Along with caring, listening and solid instructional support, he adds fun in learning to the mix.
Dave is currently a co-chair for membership on the Contra Costa County CCAE Chapter Board and has been a CCAE member since 2004. He does this because he wants to share with others the importance of being a CCAE member and broaden his circle of professional colleagues. He has also been a member of the California Consortium of Independent Study (CCIS) for over 15 years.
