Under the leadership of Joanne Durkee, long-time administrator at Mt. Diablo Adult Education and Director since 2005, the nature and scope of Adult Education in the Mt. Diablo Unified School District have been transformed.
This transformation has been in the way the Adult Education division collaborates with its district partners in providing services to the community and families of the Mt. Diablo Unified School District.
In addition, Joanne helped pioneer local workforce development initiatives, programs and organizations, serving in advisory and leadership roles in many of these. Her work in developing the field of Career Technical Education with K-12 based and Adult Education programs with the state is legendary.
Joanne has been an active participant in all aspects of CCAE - chapter, region and state, for over 30 years, serving as President of the Contra Costa Chapter, State Award Chair, Legislative Chair for Bay Section, and most recently Legislative Chair for the state since 2009. Joanne has been and continues to be the voice of Adult Education in California, working with the Governor’s administrators and state legislators.
Under Joanne’s guidance as a member of CCAE at state level leadership work groups, Adult Education in California is emerging in new and exciting ways through the current legislatively mandated AB86 regional consortia planning. For all of her countless service contributions to the California Council for Adult Education (CCAE) for more than 30 years for the welfare and education of adults in the State of California, we highly recommend Joanne be bestowed life-long membership in CCAE.
