Excellence in Teaching Award

Mona Peracca

Mona began her teaching career as an elementary teacher and has worked at Visalia Adult School for ten years. She has taught a number of classes at Visalia Adult School including ESL, Business Computer classes, Adult Basic Education and High School Equivalency preparation classes. She currently teaches Adult Basic Education Language Arts and High School Equivalency Math.

Mona is a teacher who is very energetic and motivating and makes a difference each and every day in the lives of her students. She is always focused on the needs of her students, and works hard to ensure that they acquire the skills needed to be successful on the High School Equivalency exams. Students enjoy her classes and report that they learn a great deal in her classes. Mona believes that improving her instructional practices as a teacher is important to her and her students. She has attended a variety of professional development sessions including teaching Common Core Math and Language Arts. Her classroom has been transformed as a result of these trainings and along with her fellow teachers has developed instructional practices focused on the adult learner. Mona is a leader in her field and presented at the CCAE Central Section Conference twice, one of which was using Common Core Math instructional strategies.

Mona Peracca has been nominated for the CALCO Award for her outstanding work in teaching at Visalia Adult School. Mona obtained her BA degree in Liberal Studies with an emphasis in Psychology and a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from Fresno Pacific University. She began her teaching career as an elementary teacher and has worked at Visalia Adult School for ten years.

Mona Peracca came to Visalia Adult School shortly after completing her teaching credential program. She started working as an evening part time teacher. Mona discovered that working with adult learners was where her true passion was. She eventually gave up her position at the elementary school and came to work for Visalia Adult School starting as a part time teacher and eventually obtaining a full time position. She has a taught a number of classes at Visalia Adult School including ESL, Business Computer classes, Adult Basic Education and High School Equivalency preparation classes. She currently teaches Adult Basic Education Language Arts and High School Equivalency Math.

Additionally, Mona has been an active CCAE member in the Visalia Chapter by bringing innovative ideas for fundraising and broadcasting various fundraisers and activities.
