Bio
Paul J. Diaz has worked hard on his own educational pathway. Holding both an Administrative Services and Pupil Personnel Services credentials has allowed for a rich and varied educational background and created the foundation for the incredible teacher, mentor, and leader he has become. He has worked at El Monte Rosemead Adult School since 1994. Throughout his twenty-seven-year career, he has held and excelled in multiple roles. Paul began as a dynamic and popular high school teacher who built their program from a single graduate, to more than 100 graduates a year. Today, many of El Monte-Rosemead’s teachers consider him to be their mentor. Paul went on to become a Counselor-Administrator and helped hundreds of students over the years. In his most recent position as Program Administrator, ESL Lead Teacher Josie Majul, states, “Paul is the most collaborative leader our department has ever had!” Another El Monte Rosemead teacher says, “A boss says, ‘Go!’ A LEADER says, ‘Let’s go!’. That describes Paul Diaz perfectly.”
Paul is a long-time member of CCAE, having joined in 2000. Starting by serving on his Chapter’s Board, Paul organized a myriad of fundraisers to create thousands of dollars in scholarships for adult students in need to continue their education. He is a big proponent of CCAE state and Section conferences. At South Coast/Southern Section conferences, Paul volunteers to work committees. He supports hosting CCAE Section meetings on his campus. Recognizing the important role CCAE plays in expanding our state representatives' knowledge and support of adult education, Paul has participated in CCAE Legislative Day for many years. He organized appointments and has met with dozens of legislators over the years to promote the CCAE message and garner support. His experience, expertise, and friendly personality have made him an asset in working with legislators to discuss the benefit and essential need of adult education in California.
Paul’s impact on adult education runs a long list of accomplishments. He partners with CASAS and TOPSPro to analyze data and set network meetings for his region. At his local level, Paul has implemented many ways to affect school culture. With his leadership he set up a remote testing team who enabled over 3000 individual students to be tested during the Covid 2020-2021 school year. He started “Wear Pink Wednesdays” to support breast cancer awareness and “Wear Red Wednesdays” to support Heart Health. Students who participate are entered in a drawing. He was instrumental in our “Aloha Week” where we host a variety of student activities from wearing tropical clothing, having trivia contests, giving students tours of different school departments, and having a Resource Fair. He started interviewing individual staff members, taking their pictures, and creating posters to hang on campus so students could get to know more about our staff.
Paul Diaz is the epitome of an adult education leader. His collaborative spirit and passion for improving the lives of adult students have allowed him to make an incredible impact not only on El Monte-Rosemead Adult School but on adult education as a whole.
