Excellence in Teaching
Richard Monte received his Massage Therapy certification from NOVA Institute and CTE Designated Teaching Credential in Health Science and Medical Terminology. Prior to teaching at Downey Adult School, Richard taught at Marinello Schools of Beauty and Everest College.
Richard brought his skills and knowledge to Downey Adult School where he established the school's first Massage Therapy program. He developed the curriculum and then submitted it for approval to the California State Regulatory Body. The program was approved, making it the only approved adult school massage therapy program in California. Richard worked hard to establish the program to be able to receive federal Pell Grant funding. Richard is currently the Director of the Massage Therapy Program.
Richard works very hard to provide his students with all the necessary knowledge and experience for a successful career. He takes a personal interest in all of his students and is responsible for establishing externships placements as well as possible job placements for students upon completion of the program. He stays in contact with students once they leave the program and continually assists them as they continue their education or pursue a career.
Richard and his students are active in their community and set up massage tables at local events where students in his program give massages for cash donations. The funds are then donated to various programs, including CCAE.
Of the many students Richard has worked with, there is one in particular that stands out. Prior to enrolling in Richard's Massage Therapy program, this student had isolated himself from friends and family. But once his skills began to develop, his attitude and energy changed dramatically. He began to mentor other students and came out of his shell. Upon the successful completion of Richard' program, he pursued a career in therapeutic services. He eventually opened his own business which is thriving in his fifth year and even serves as an externship site for Richard's current students.
Richard Monte has established himself as an incredible teacher, mentor, colleague and friend at Downey Adult School. He brings passion to his program and students and strives to bring out the best in every person he encounters.
