Janet Yvonne Hernandez has worked as an ESL instructor at Rowland Adult and Community Education (RACE) since 2016. She served two years as the CCAE RACE Chapter secretary and currently serves as the CCAE RACE Chapter treasurer. She’s proven to be a dedicated and effective teacher and employee who strives for student success and the overall success of the school.
Janet participated in a variety of Adult Education programs and groups. She represents Rowland Adult and Community Education as a member of the Mt. San Antonio College Consortium Adult Education ESL Work Group. Additionally, Janet has participated in the Outreach and Technical Assistance Network’s (OTAN) and Digital Leadership Academy (DLAC). With the unexpected arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic, Janet rose to the occasion to overcome the challenges of providing fully online instruction. She reached out to her students by sending postcards and emails and making phone calls. Through her efforts, she was able to successfully engage students to participate in online ESL classes. She maintained consistent student attendance and increased her students’ digital literacy skills.
When Janet is not hard at work, she spends her time outdoors enjoying nature. She enjoys camping and loves exploring new hiking trails. The ocean brings her peace and tranquility, and she spends countless hours navigating the water on her paddleboard. Janet appreciates the beauty of our world and lives life to the fullest.
