Karyn has taught concurrent high school, ESL, ABE, HSD, and GED® classes in addition to her eight-year role as WASC coordinator. She is a professional educator in all aspects and has demonstrated excellence in teaching adult students. Karyn’s impact on students is evident in the voices of her students. Her students describe her as a good teacher who is patient and helpful. Her classes are always interesting, and her students love her funny stories that help them make connections to their learning. Karyn believes that all her students are capable of transitioning to the local community college or workplace, and she demonstrates this by working with her students in assisting them to set obtainable goals and encouraging them to plan the steps needed to achieve these goals. Many of her students have advanced to higher-level classes, earned their high school diplomas or GED® certificates, and have gone on to enroll in community college and/or enter the workforce.
Karyn has taken her excellence in teaching in the classroom to new heights by working with other adult school professionals. She is a leader and takes on new teaching assignments with a positive energy. As a teacher and WASC coordinator, she has insured that both her students and site staff are well informed. Karyn has organized and prepared WASC self-study reports, as well as maintained her teacher stride and other commitments, and she does it all with a gracious and patient attitude. She is an active participant in her department’s professional learning community and the site’s leadership team as she strives to provide best practices in curriculum and instruction for all adult students. Additionally, she has worked as a professional development facilitator for CALPRO, leading a variety of modules both face-to-face and online since 2009. With a committed and dedicated heart, Karyn has served in various CCAE Chapter and Section level positions since 2014 and is the current Tulare Adult School Chapter president and Central Section president elect.
