Bio
Linda J. Laymon has been teaching and working with adult English learners for over 10 years. Linda got her start by working with refugee populations in the Bay area where she introduced an extensive reading program to low-level English learners to help build fluency and vocabulary while also giving learners a skill that they could share with their school-aged children who were also learning English. This work complimented her Master’s degree project in which she studied the impacts of Extensive Reading on language acquisition for low-level English learners.
Since 2016, in her current role as an ESL and Computers teacher for San Juan Adult Education in Sacramento, she continues to be an asset to her students and the school by bringing in best practices and innovative teaching strategies to help students reach their goals. She is a risk-taker who is not afraid to take on challenging and new curriculum and methods in order to meet her students’ needs. She also serves as a leader, as a trained DELAC educator and mentor for her colleagues as an innovator and technology expert.
Linda simply loves to teach and is especially passionate about helping adult immigrants develop their English language skills in order to foster autonomy and success in the U.S. Linda’s interest in learning and studying about other cultures, traditions, countries, and peoples enhances her ability to connect with her students in ESL. Seeing the spark of understanding and excitement in the eyes of her students is her greatest reward.
