Bio
Rory Lynn Johnson, M.A., has over 17 years of adult education experience and 5 years of membership in CCAE. In 2009, Ms. Johnson joined Maxine Waters EPC as an ESL teacher. She flourished in this department with her enthusiasm and innovative lessons to students in multilevel ESL classes. In 2020, Ms. Johnson was selected to teach one of the school’s newest CTE programs, child development. This program is the result of a joint effort between LA Unified Adult Education and the city of Los Angeles. The goal of this program is to eradicate the school readiness gap by 2025. Her prior experience in this field accelerated her ability to launch this program almost immediately upon approval. In addition to her extraordinary teaching ability, Ms. Johnson also does community outreach to improve program performance. She has strengthened the school’s partnership with the neighboring LAUSD early education center, Ethel Bradley, by receiving approval for her students to complete their externships there. Despite the pandemic, Ms. Johnson made the transition to remote learning with ease. She successfully implemented the digital platforms and sought additional resources in the community such as fieldwork videos to meet the course objectives. Ms. Johnson also coordinated guest speaker appearances and had students observe children in classrooms live via zoom. Ms. Johnson is well on her way to helping the city eradicate the school readiness gap.
