Jose De Jesus Garcia received training through the Los Angeles Job Corps Center where he earned his X-Ray Technician, Medical Assistant, and Phlebotomy state licenses. After that, he attended the Orange County Regional Occupational Program and earned his Nursing Assistant license. Mr. Garcia is state certified in all areas of his medical training. In 2010, he attended Cal State Long Beach, where he earned his vocational education teaching credential. Mr. Garcia shares his training and experiences to inspire, encourage, and promote opportunities for his students.
Mr. Garcia is a Medical Occupations instructor and has been with EL Monte-Rosemead Adult School since 2016. Prior to joining the EMRAS team he worked at Downey Adult School as a Phlebotomy instructor. Mr. Garcia teaches our Medical prerequisites, EKG, and courses related to the Medical Assistant program. In addition, he is a key contributor in designing and implementing the Personal Care Aide-Integrated Education and Training program. He collaborates with ESL instructors to provide training to help ESL students earn a Personal Care Aide certificate while improving their English skills. Many of the students who have completed the program found employment in the field.
Mr. Garcia is a hands-on teacher and engages his students in all the courses that he teaches. Mr. Garcia is very personable and passionate about the students and the classes that he teaches. He encourages reluctant learners who have experienced limited academic success, helps students overcome the fear of blood, and empowers students to react in emergency situations. Mr. Garcia volunteers his students to work at school wide and community events to provide health screenings in the community. He is passionate about finding creative strategies to incorporate technology that helps students to learn both theory and practice that will be essential in the workplace. To ensure that students succeed, he has tutored students in various courses during his own time. Mr. Garcia models the behaviors and skills that not only prepare students for a profession, but also prepare them for success in life.
Mr. Garcia’s classes have a very high completion and success rate with students obtaining jobs in the medical field. He participates at EMRAS’s medical advisory board meetings that provide input to ensure his medical classes stay current in the industry. He goes above and beyond for his students so they can practice their skills learned in the class. His students participate in adult school events, such as the annual Resource Fair assisting with vital signs screening. Many of his students have furthered their education and returned to his class to present their success stories to motivate current students. Mr. Garcia creates videos of these former students to show to his future classes.
Mr. Garcia is an active member of CCAE. He served as Vice President of the South Coast and Southern sections from 2018-2019 and President from 2020-2022. He has been a presenter at CCAE conferences. In his free time he has volunteered at Care Harbor Medical Clinic, the D.A.D. project that educates families, and provided training in First Aid and CPR at the Southern California Red Cross. Mr. Garcia is truly deserving of this recognition and EMRAS is proud to nominate him for this award of excellence.
