On April 10th, 2024, a group of dedicated students from Fairfield-Suisun Adult School had the opportunity to meet with Senator Bill Dodd at his office in Sacramento to discuss the importance of adult education. Led by the Cultural Inclusion Club (CIC) President, Maria Alva Villasenor, and joined by April's District Student of the Month, Hugo A. Villasenor, Rachelle Solon, and CIC Advisor Kenia Macias, the students engaged in a meaningful conversation about the impact of adult education on their lives and in society.
The meeting with Senator Dodd took place during Adult Education Week, providing an ideal opportunity for students to advocate for the value of adult education programs. They shared personal stories and experiences, highlighting how adult education has served as a pathway to new opportunities and improved prospects for their future. Kenia Macias, the Cultural Inclusion Club Advisor, emphasized the far-reaching impact of adult education, stating, "Adult Education is some students' first opportunity, others' second opportunity, and their chance for a better future. With many of our students being parents of K-12 children, the knowledge they gain directly influences the prospects of our youth. Asking parents to read with kids at home, when they (parents) don't know how to read makes no sense. The impact of the Fairfield-Suisun Adult School is immense in our community." The meeting with Senator Dodd provided an invaluable platform for Fairfield-Suisun Adult School students to advocate for adult education and raise awareness about its significance in empowering individuals and strengthening communities. |
