Juan Carlos Ramero realized from early on that his lack of English fluency would keep him from achieving his goals. As a student at Fresno City College, he found he was unable to communicate ideas or express himself clearly. He scored low on placement tests and none of the classes from his first year of college were eligible for transfer to CSU Fresno. While attending Fresno City College and working full-time, Juan Carlos decided to enroll at Clovis Adult Education to improve his English skills. He credits CAE instructors and counselors for the encouragement and support that allowed him to complete his studies and advance his language skills. Juan Carlos states, “If you do not put effort into what you want, you will never overcome the challenges. All the roads until this point were difficult but new challenges are just beginning, and I have to be ready for them. One thing I am sure of is that I am not alone on this new journey.” Juan Carlos is currently attending CSU Fresno as a Plant Health major.
